Atul Punj is the Chairman and Managing Director of Punj Lloyd, a diversified conglomerate providing engineering and construction services in Energy and Infrastructure, with interests in manufacturing and defence sectors. Headquartered in India, Punj Lloyd has operations spread across the Middle East, the Caspian and Asia Pacific.
Mr Punj’s global vision for the Group led him to cross boundaries and establish international offices in 14 countries and gain project experience worldwide. The 8000 strong multicultural workforce underlines his focused approach to harness diversity within the organisation. This rich amalgamation of diverse skill sets and cultures has resulted in a powerful intellectual work environment, encouraging dynamic ideas and innovative thinking.
Through a combination of strategic acquisitions and joint ventures, he led the Group to enhance its scale and competitive position to acquire a leadership position in the industry with an impressive list of international and national clients.
In the backdrop of the Make in India programme, it was Mr Punj who set-up India’s first Private Sector Small Arms Manufacturing Facility, taking India a step closer to self-reliance through defence indigenisation. Mr Punj can be credited with getting the full technology of Small Arms Manufacturing to India, which will provide the country access to tried and tested combat weapons, made in India. Mr Punj has been advocating the measures that need to be taken for increasing National Security.
Be it exploring multiple opportunities for the Group in defence or capitalising on the emerging nuclear renaissance, Mr Punj has been instrumental in consolidating Group’s diverse businesses.
To address the skill gap in the industry, Mr Punj introduced the ‘Punj Lloyd Institute of Infrastructure’ at the Indian School of Business (ISB) campus at Mohali.
Mr Punj was awarded the Ernst & Young 'Entrepreneur of the Year 2007' in the Infrastructure & Construction category. CNBC TV 18 conferred the ‘First Generation Entrepreneur of the Year’ award to Mr Punj. Under his focus on quality construction, Punj Lloyd was felicitated by Economic Times in 2017. The Group is globally listed in ENR Ranking of Top 225 International Contractors, Top 225 Global Contractors and Top 200 Design Firms, every year.
Atul Punj is based in New Delhi and is actively involved with many trade bodies. With his exhaustive experience of global geographies and the energy sector, Atul Punj has also served as the President of International Pipe Line and Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA), headquartered in Switzerland from 2015-16. Representing India at various international forums, Atul Punj is the Chairman of CII National Committee on Construction and a Member of the CII National Council. He was also the Founder Chairman of Samena Capital.
Atul Punj enjoys swimming and skiing. A voracious reader, he enjoys non-fiction.
Aditya Vij is the Group President, Defence and Aerospace at Punj Lloyd. He has been responsible for setting up the Defence vertical for the Group and is instrumental in collaborating with global companies in the Defence and Aerospace Sector including Airbus Military, Lockheed Martin, Saab Aerospace, and Rheinmetall Defense. In addition, he was instrumental in setting-up a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant for heavy machining of large components for Defence and Aerospace applications and successfully marketed Defence and Aerospace products in the Indian market.
He is also an Advisory Operating Partner at Kedaara Capital Advisors LLP, a private equity firm focused on India. Kedaara offers solution-oriented capital combining deep strategic & operational expertise in focused sectors, consultative approach and global connectivity to deliver superior returns.
Previously, Aditya was the Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Healthcare Ltd, one of the largest integrated healthcare delivery service providers in India with network of over 55 healthcare facilities. He was instrumental in intensifying the company’s focus on healthcare delivery in India and in positioning Fortis amongst the fastest growing integrated Healthcare delivery organizations by broadening its clinical footprint, establishing strong clinical governance mechanisms, implementing common systems and processes, and strengthening the talent base.
During his career of 33 years, Aditya spent 25 years in the Automotive Industry of which 18 years was with General Motors Europe from 1991-2008, across five countries in Europe and Asia. Some of the key senior positions he held with GM include Regional Executive Director - Nordic, Benelux & Switzerland, Chairman & Managing Director - GM India and General Director - Opel Southeast Europe. Among his significant achievements at GM was the revival of the Saab brand in Sweden, the turnaround and subsequent expansion of GM’s business in India, establishment of an Engineering and R&D Centre for Global competitiveness in Bangalore and creating a strong GM footprint in Central Europe.
He currently serves on the boards of Visa Suncoke Limited, Gabriel India Ltd and Bill Forge Ltd. In the past, he has served on several other boards including those of various Fortis and General Motors entities, Society of Automobile Manufacturers, India and American Chamber of Commerce.
Aditya received an M.B.A. from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Switzerland, and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India as well as an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.
Ashok is President - Manufacturing Business for Punj Lloyd Group with 22+ years of domestic and International experience in Manufacturing, Sourcing & Financial services covering Consumer and Commercial verticals. He is a versatile leader having extensive experience in starting business from inception, building strategy, developing and nurturing client relationships, opex optimization, and transforming businesses to deliver on financial commitments.
Ashok has extensive experience of starting business verticals from scratch in both manufacturing and international marketing with full P&L responsibility and turning them around to become profitable in a short span of time.
A Mechanical Engineer, Ashok has a post graduation in MBA in International Marketing & Finance. He has previously worked in GE, India Forge & Tata International.
Heading the manufacturing business for Punj Lloyd Group, Ashok is responsible for the high-end precision manufacturing in Defence, Aviation, Energy (Nuclear, Hydro, Wind and Gas) and Oil & Gas at the Company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing and systems integration facility at Malanpur, Madhya Pradesh. They are prime for defence products in land systems and aerospace components/ subsystems, as well as supplying machined and fabricated parts to OEM’s in the above industries.
Ashok further scaled up the Defence business of the Group with the setting-up of a Small Arms Manufacturing Plant in Malanpur in Joint Venture with IWI of Israel. Ashok is Director on Board of Punj Lloyd Raksha Systems Ltd., the JV company.
The third generation of the Punj family, Shiv Punj is a Whole-time Director of Punj Lloyd. He joined the Business Strategy and Corporate Development department, rising to assume greater responsibility as a Director on the Board.
With a Bachelor of Arts in International Global Studies from Brandeis University at Waltham, US and A Levels from Millfield School, Somerset UK, Shiv interned with reputed investment banking firm, J P Morgan Chase and the innovative safety, security and technology solution provider, Olive Group. Thereafter he joined Bain & Company as Associate Consultant.
Shiv’s education in international global studies and his understanding of global markets, client servicing and diverse industries will be a great asset to the Group’s diverse and global operations.
Young, enthusiastic and brimming with energy, Shiv will explore new markets and strategise to promote business. He will play an integral role in change management within the Group.
Shiv enjoys sports, especially skiing, cars and is passionate about music.
